about emerald energy solutions (ees)
Emerald Energy Solutions (EES) is an experienced partner in the acquisition, development, and maintenance of power supply for businesses with high energy outputs.
EES has established relationships with DTE Energy, Michigan’s largest state-regulated electric utility, serving over 2 million customers throughout the state, as well as parts of Canada.
EES evolved partly out of necessity to address the power requirements of industries attempting to operate in the Detroit Metro area. One of the biggest challenges faced in the site selection and operation of facilities with high energy requirements is sufficient and consistent power supply to support current operating conditions and future expansion plans. Insufficient power capacity has caused potential operators to either significantly downsize their original plans, relocate to different areas, or opt out of the industry. These bottlenecks have caused detrimental supply chain issues, along with unbalanced supply and demand, thereby inhibiting the growth of the Michigan industrial and manufacturing markets. EES has the experience to develop properties with the full spectrum of services required for sustained operation.
One of the more general challenges in operating these types of facilities is finding sufficient and consistent power supply to support the operation’s business plans and production. Lack of sufficient power has caused potential operators to either significantly downsize their original plans or opt out of the industry, as the investment in real estate, equipment, licensing, and time would not support a downsized operation. These bottlenecks have caused detrimental supply chain issues, along with unbalanced supply and demand, thereby preventing the Michigan market from thriving.
The development of Emerald Business Park directly addressed these operational barriers by working exclusively with DTE Energy to construct a 15 megawatt electrical substation on the property. The substation is dedicated to Emerald Business Park’s site, and its power supply is for the sole and exclusive use of the property.

EES worked directly with tenants and their electrical contractors to form and submit load sheets and equipment schedules, to ensure that the suitable amount of power was secured for each respective operation on site. This 15 MW power capacity meets the operational demands of all tenants and has a surplus for even significantly higher energy requirements.
The chief administration of EES worked with DTE Energy in securing EBP’s power agreement, and assisted in the design and construction of the substation. EES and Emerald Business Park made a $3,200,000.00 commitment to DTE Energy towards this project, which took over 36 months to complete. The extensive site preparation prior to substation construction was completed by EES and its contractors, which included significant underground electrical infrastructure, environmental testing, environmental remediation, topographic surveys, and installation of additional storm and drain sewer systems, among other site qualifications.
EES also engaged one of the most reputable high voltage electrical contractors to construct the underground electrical infrastructure for connection to the substation. This company has worked with DTE Energy, and other public and private utilities, on hundreds of projects and has significant experience in servicing, maintaining, and installing transformers.
